Geneva Motor Show: Aston’s Hypercar Named

The Valkyrie is born….much better than AM-RB-001 don’t you think?

Geneva was full of surprises but very few were expecting this.  The official naming of Astons forthcoming hypercar. People on the internet were confident it would be Nebula but how wrong they were. AM-RB-001 is now called Valkyrie, following Aston’s obsession with things beginning with ‘V’ (Behave!).

The name is taken from Norse Mythology, Valkyries were “a group of maidens who served the god Odin and were sent by him to the battlefields to choose the slain who were worthy of a place in Valhalla.” (Thanks Google) which sounds like more than a good choice to name a hypercar. No silly numbering or repeating your own brand name *cough* Holy Trinity.

Aston also revealed the tires that the Valkyrie will run on, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 measuring 265/35 at the front and 325/30 at the rear. This may not seem like massive news but each small detail about this car pieces together a larger puzzle. For example, those tires will sit on lightweight magnesium alloy wheels with race-spec centre-lock nuts to further reduce unsprung mass. We already know as well that Cosworth are being drafted in to take charge of the engine which will be a 6.5-litre V12. Naturally aspirated of course.  Ricardo are building a seven-speed paddle shift gearbox and Rimac are tasked with the batteries for a hybrid boost system for even more speed.  Multimac are doing the carbon MonoCell tub after success with the One-77 and Vulcan. Alcon are in control of the carbon ceramic brakes and finally, Bosch are currently working on an electronic stability system so complicated it would be easier to time travel.

Let’s not forget that they are teamed with Red Bull Formula 1 to create this beast which all begs the question. What EXACTLY is Aston Martin in charge of?

You excited about the Valkyrie? Or do you think it cannot possibly live up to the Holy Trinity? Let us know below…
